<p>Shedding a few extra pounds and staying in shape is a recurrent desire nowadays. And it’s only natural to want a toned and healthy body, and all the advantages that come with it, such as a beautiful, smooth skin and agility.</p>
<p>Increasing fitness levels and having a fit body shouldn’t be such a hard thing to do. Motivation should be the only sine-qua-non ingredient, and the rest should come easily. But it’s not always like that, especially in the big cities where you must hunt parks or other appropriate environments for walking or running. This is time consuming, we all know it.</p>
<p>But let’s take it gradually. First you need to know why walking and running are so good for fitness. The answers are instinctively simple. Most important, walking and running provide amazing cardiovascular workout. Secondly, they help you strengthen your muscles and are great for toning. Third of all, these two activities help you lose those extra pounds and build up the body you dream about. Overall, walking and running challenge the body and increase fitness level while maintaining a consistent workout routine.</p>
<p>So, what is the solution to the problem often found in big cities where running and walking surfaces are so hard to find?</p>
<p><strong>My answer is: Treadmills.</strong></p>
<p>The treadmill represents an advantageous mean of working out while enjoying media entertainment. There are many pros that make the treadmill both efficient and enjoyable. Firstly, you will never have to worry about the weather. Either it’s a too hot summer day or a cruel winter evening, you can equally enjoy your walks and runs. Then you are better protected from injuries with treadmills’ advanced cushion system. Most treadmills incorporate adjustable cushion systems that reduce impact on joints and ankles with ~30% more than outside running.</p>
<p>Another plus I consider is that motivation is easier to stay up with different gadgets found on treadmills. And I don’t lose focus that easy because the workouts I pre-set impose my rhythm. I have to keep up.</p>

<p>When it comes to treadmills, you can choose from a various workouts selection. You can go for walking/ running programs, aerobic workouts or programs specifically designed for fitness enhancement. The good thing is that on reliable treadmills you enter your age, gender and weight so that feedback received during workout is as accurate as possible. This way you’ll know what you have to do next in order to improve your performance.</p>
<p>The great thing about treadmills is that you follow workout feedback right away on the console display, such as distance, time, speed, burned calories and so on. This creates a feeling of accomplishment, especially when you start improving your time, speed and burned calories.</p>
<p>These being said, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that treadmills are a useful tool that you shouldn’t ignore if you want to have a beautiful body. Living in a big city and having no time are not an excuse anymore.</p>

So it is better to continue eating similar things to what you are used to, and simply cutting down the portion sizes; and it is no good doing your running in the spring and summer, and then quitting for the fall and winter when the rain and cold weather arrives. This would be a plan you&#8217;d have to start over from scratch the following spring, as all those pounds will have reappeared.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p>Many of us don&#8217;t enjoy going to the gym but do wish we had an easy way to increase the amount of exercise we are taking. One way to stay fit and healthy is to walk more and you can help to achieve this by using a simple pedometer to count how many step you take each day. A pedometer will count the number of steps you take and the distance you have walked and, by setting yourself realistic goals, you can slowly increase how far you walk daily.</p>
<p>In the past pedometers were not especially accurate but today&#8217;s models are much better and give a very accurate measure of your daily step rate. Some pedometers can even be dropped into a purse or pocket and still accurately count your steps!</p>
<p><strong>Will a pedometer really be a help in increasing the amount of walking you do every day?</strong></p>
<p>In many trials reported by the Journal of American Medicine this was indeed the case. In twenty six different trials physical activity of the participants using a pedometer increased, on average, by 25%. This level of increase is significant and would really have a beneficial effect on the health and fitness of those who achieved it.</p>
<p>One important thing to do is to set a realistic goal for the number of steps you want to achieve each day. It is recommended that you aim for 2000 steps daily but it may take you a few weeks to reach this goal. Monitor your usual amount of activity for a few days using your pedometer than set a goal 10% higher each day until you achieve this level.</p>
<p>There are some simple means you can take to increase your step rate. Walk to the local shops rather than drive or if this is not realistic at least park further away! Take time to walk around the park each day. Not only will you walk more but you&#8217;ll enjoy the stress free time out of a busy day. use the stairs at work or at the mall instead of the elevator. I&#8217;m sure you can think of lots more ways to walk more each day!</p>
<p>As noted earlier, many models today do not have to be clipped to a belt but can be carried around with you in a purse or in a pocket and are still accurate. These muscles originate in the pelvis and extend below the back of your knee. The strength of your hamstring defines its capability to resist pulls and strains. Exercises to strengthen your hamstrings are good investments for your health. Here are a few exercises that greatly enhance the strength of your hamstrings.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.hamstringexercises.org/thigh-exercises.html">Standing Leg Curls </a>with Catch. Begin with a light load on the standing leg curl machine. Raise the leg with weight back in the concentric phase. Hold this for a while. Then start lowering the leg, allow the weight to free fall and catch it near the bottom of its eccentric phase. Your leg does not necessarily have to lose contact with the weight but must permit a sudden drop and catch. This exercise somehow imitates the eccentric swing phase that happens when you run.</p>
<p>Nordic ReverseCurl/Glute Ham Curl. Start by kneeling on the floor with feet stretched behind and the trunk upright at a 90-degree angle. It is recommended that you place some soft support under the knee. Bend forward until your body reaches a certain angle with the under eccentric hamstring control. Go back to the first position using your hands. Use your hands to steady this part if necessary to avoid falling face down. Perform 2 sets of 10 exercises with two minute rest gap. You can stand up and loosen off during the gap. Do not do this exercise during the same day as you do your leg curls.</p>
<p>Romanian Deadlifts. Select the appropriate barbell that you can carry comfortably at an upright deadlift position at the thighs. But make sure that the weight is not too light. While keeping the legs either straight or slightly bent, lower the bar until it reaches a position where you can feel your hamstrings working. Stop somewhere around the shins. Return to your starting position. Always make sure that you do not force yourself too much with this exercise. Stop when discomfort or pain arises. You can perform 2 sets of 10 exercises with 1-2 minute rest gaps. Gradually increase the intensity as you get used to the weights you lift.</p>

<h3>How fast should I run?</h3>

I have recently discovered the benefits of using a heart rate monitor and am sure that you could benefit too.</p>
<p>Heart rate monitors have been around the <strong><a href="http://theexercise-equipment.com/what-is-fitness" target="_self">fitness industry</a></strong> for a long time but until recently I didn’t pay them much attention because they were simply too difficult to use.  I didn’t want to strap a meter around my chest and have to mess with keeping it adjusted and in the right place during a workout.  I was pleasantly surprised to find a wrist based heart rate monitor that requires no additional meter.</p>
<p>This allows me to easily keep track of my heart rate and maximize the benefit of the time I spend exercising.  A heart rate monitor can be used in a few different ways.  I must first say that your heart rate gives you some very valuable information.  Determined by your maximum heart rate you can quickly determine your real exertion levels.</p>
<p>This means that your 95% perceived exertion level may not really be as high as you thought.  If your max heart rate is 200 and you are only hitting 185, then you still have a little ways to go before you hit your max exertion level.  Having this information can be very instrumental in breaking through barriers.</p>
<p>Another very important heart rate level is your ideal fat burning zone which is actually only about 60 &#8211; 70%.  Many people automatically think that harder is better and it is for building endurance, but if you are trying to burn fat you need to slow it down.  Watching your heart rate is the best way to stay right where you need to be and get the most out of your time.</p>
<p>There are numerous workouts that you can do based on your heart rate and a heart rate monitor can be a great learning tool.  This addition to your home gym can go a long way towards helping you reach your goals.  A heart rate monitor is a small piece of fitness equipment that can have a major impact.</p>
