Does Alcohol Hinder Weight Loss?

by admin on January 26, 2010

If you want to be a quick weight loss expert then you need to be prepared to set yourself limits and make some sacrifices. The faster you want to lose weight, the more sacrifices you may need to personally make. Yes, you may have to go to the gym more often; work at becoming more active overall, and cut back on the chocolate and carbonated drinks.  For example, if you like to have a wine with your dinner you may have to forego that as wine is high in calories. Of course, everyone is different, but if you are serious about dieting you will have to cut out alcohol and other carbonated, high-sugar drinks from your diet.

While alcohol may not be the whole reason for significant weight gain, it really does not make it any easier to lose weight and continuing to drink it may hinder you from reaching your goals. Alcohol is not only high in sugar, but they are empty calories that do not do your body any good at all.  While one drink a week may not affect things much, having a few drinks a couple of times a week most certainly will. One average sized 12 ounce beer contains 130 calories, whereas a 4 ounce glass of wine has 120 calories. Drinks like Mikes hard lemonade at 220 calories a drink, has even more.  If have two or three drinks every night, with dinner or after dinner, those calories will quickly add up.

Another problem with drinking alcohol when you are trying to lose weight is that it impairs your judgment and lowers your inhibitions. Consequently, it is not unusual for someone who has had a few drinks to start snacking away, all the while telling themselves that it is fine to do it once and a while. Alcohol also inhibits the production of the hormone, leptin, which is the one that makes you feel full after a meal.  If this happens you will not feel at all hungry, and so naturally you will continue snacking all evening.  This is why people often want to go get some fast food, or something ‘filling’ after they have had a night out drinking. They are not really hungry, but their body is telling them that they are.

While drinking alcohol in moderation can offer some protection to your body, drinking too much can really contribute to your weight problems.  On the positive side, alcohol is good for your arteries and can even help calm an upset stomach, but drinking too much just adds empty calories to your diet which will definitely hinder you in your attempts to lose weight. If you are the sort of person that can have a drink or two once a week, then it should not be a problem. If, however, you are like a lot of people and you do not have the will power to limit your drinking to very little, then the safest thing to do would be to not allow yourself to have any alcohol while dieting. That way, you will be sure to reach your quick weight loss goals faster rather than sabotaging your diet plans by drinking too much alcohol.

Great Tips for How to Lose 30 Pounds

by admin on January 26, 2010

If you are wanting to get in shape, then eating a little better helps you out.  But, if you need to lose a lot of weight, it’s going to require dedication, focus, and proper nutrition as well as the right kinds of exercise.  If you want to know how to lose 30 pounds, then I am going to show you.  If you follow these steps, you can lose the weight.  Before starting any exercise regimen though, be sure to consult your doctor, I don’t want you getting hurt!

The first thing you need to do is exercise.  Yes, nutrition is important and I will discuss that later, but the right kinds of exercise are definitely important.  People just want to run, and do cardio such as the treadmill but that won’t work for long.  Our bodies are made to adapt to stress, and so when you start running, your body will quickly adapt to that motion.  That is why you can run further and further each time you run.  The problem is that your body become more efficient.  So, even though you may run further, your body uses energy more efficiently, and therefore burns way less calories.  That is why strength training and resistance training are important.  They add continually more stress on your muscle groups, and so your muscles can’t adapt since you’re increasing the weight, or providing more resistance.  This helps to burn fat.

As far as nutrition goes, it’s about eating the right foods and staying away from foods that are high in fat content, and also high in sodium and sugars.  These will stop your weight loss, and can even contribute to your weight gain.  If you incorporate more fat burning foods such as fruits and vegetables, as well as count your calories and don’t eat too many calories each day, then you will be able to lose the large amount of weight that you are wanting to lose.
