It’s Tattoo Removal Season

by admin on June 2, 2010

It’s that time of year.  We’re all working frantically to fit into our summer clothing.  Bathing suit season is just around the corner and people are thinking more and more about how their bodies look.  One thing that many people are thinking about during the skin showing season is tattoo removal.

Millions of unlucky people out there have either an ugly tattoo or a tattoo that they regret getting in the first place.  During the winter months, many tattoos are hidden by layers of warm clothing and people tend to forget about tattoo removal.  Let’s face it, we all want to look good at the beach.  Unfortunately, you can be in prime physical condition but if you have an ugly tattoo, people are going to stare.

One way of ridding oneself of unsightly embarrassing tattoos is to use a product called tattoo removal cream.  There are several companies who make tattoo removal cream.  Wrecking Balm, Ink Busters, Nuviderm, and Tattoo Off are just a few of the well known brands of tattoo removal cream that are on the market.

These products work by getting past the top layer of skin called the epidermis and into the second layer of skin called the dermis.  The dermis is extremely stable and that is why ink that is deposited there will last a lifetime.  The top layer of skin sheds and regenerates on about a six week cycle.  The products break down the ink holding  skins cells in the dermis.  These cells are then shed from the body taking the tattoo ink with it.

Tattoo removal cream is not and instant fix for those embarrassing tattoo’s.  If you choose to use it, be prepared to be patient.  In order for the product to work, you need to use it for a prolonged period of time.  Often times, for several months.  The removal process can more accurately be described as a fading process.

Tattoo removal cream is much less expensive than traditional laser tattoo removal.  Laser tattoo removal can often cost several thousand dollars.   So if you’ve been thinking about ridding yourself of an ugly tattoo, you might want to look into the possibility of using tattoo removal cream.

If you’ve been looking into the cost of removing a bad or unwanted tattoo, you will quickly discover two things.

1. Professional tattoo removal services are very expensive. This includes services such as laser treatment, rejuvi injections, or dermabrasion sessions.

2. Over the counter tattoo removal products are very inexpensive. This includes products such as Wrecking Balm, Dermasal, Tattoo Off, and other similar creams and gels.

Understandably, you are likely to want to believe that the second option is going to do the job of the first but at a fraction of the cost. The desire to save money is generally why people buy these inexpensive tattoo removal products in the first place, despite a skeptical warning inside telling them it might not work so well.

You’d do well to listen to these warnings. There are three reasons why so called cheap tattoo removal products can end up costing you even more than you expected.

The first reason is the length of time it takes to see fading results. Sure, you can buy a one month kit for under $100, but it might take 10 one month kits to see fading. And even then it might not fade like you want – it might be just partially faded. And you’d need to keep buying more and more.

The second reason is some of these products can actually damage the skin. Specifically, I’m talking about TCA skin peels. These shouldn’t really be done as an at home tattoo removal technique as it’s simply too risky.

The third reason is that after spending 6-12 months buying and using these products, you will likely end up spending money on one of the above professional methods, such as laser treatments. Laser tattoo removal costs are significant, and this will be an expense on top of the money wasted on products that don’t very well.

If you’re considering cheap tattoo removing creams and gels, please consider the reasons above and give yourself some time to consider if the risk is worth it. You might end up spending way more money than you think if you’re not lucky.
