The people that promote fad diets hope to profit from the preoccupation wit weight and appearance that can be found among a large percentage of young women. The females in that group are often willing to pay any amount, in order to obtain a “perfect body.” They do not hesitate to pay money, or to consider the cost in terms of health, when drastic measures are taken, in order to shed a few pounds.
Still, not every young adult who follows the “rules” of a fad diet happens to be a female. Some men, especially those in sports such as wrestling and boxing could have reason to consider one of the crash diets. For them such a diet normally involves a drastic reduction in the amount of calories consumed, regardless of the need to pursue regular physical activities.
If those drastic dieting techniques fail to reduce the athlete’s weight sufficiently before a scheduled match, then the overweight athlete must work up a good sweat. He might be seen running around the gym in sweats before the match begins. In that way, he hopes to loose a sweat off a fair amount of water.
Girls seldom try to sweat off a few pounds. However, they have been known to try the water diet. In that case, they make a point of eating lots of fiber rich vegetables, the sort that are contain lots of water and very few carbohydrates. The same foods contain virtually no fat. They also fail to provide the body with a large number of nutrients. That fact explains why dieting that focuses on water rich food can be dangerous.
It can also lead to great discomfort, especially if the dieter is taking a trip and must wait until the next stop to use a restroom. At least one young female was in tears, because she found herself in that exact situation.
