Brain Waves In Your Head

Are you aware of the fact that your brain wave patterns completely determine your reality each and every day? A lot of people do not know that the reason that they feel a certain emotion or get caught up in a certain state of mental activity is due to their brain waves. There are a few basic brainwaves that people often experience. The most widespread, dominant of patterns in our brain during the day are called beta waves. These help us think consciously and process information, which is very useful. However, if we have too many of these beta waves, which are involved in cognition (e.g. thinking), we can really stress ourselves out.

The way to get yourself out of a certain brain wave state is by changing your daily activities. If you frequently work a lot, but never take any time to relax, then chances are good that your brain is going to be stressed. Taking a break for relaxation after a stressful day is not only healthy, but it is smart. There is increasing evidence that slowing your brain after a hard day will help you live a longer, more productive life. Every time that you relax your brain, it is accompanied by either alpha or theta waves, which are slower.

Most people experience alpha waves when they close their eyes or right before they fall asleep at night. If you have a job that is stress free and that facilitates relaxation, you will probably not need to worry about tapping your alpha state, because you are probably already there. When you go to sleep at night, your delta brain waves and theta waves overpower the other rhythms like beta. Although you probably aren’t stressed when you go to sleep, people that are stressed out (e.g. have overactive beta waves) can have insomnia, which essentially is preventing their brain from slowing down.
