Creating A Home Gym For Less

We all know that exercise, combined with a healthy diet, can boost energy, increase mental focus and extend our life expectancy.  However, with the high cost of gym memberships, and limited time for exercise in our busy days, we often find plenty of excuses not to workout.  The truth is, many of us would be much more likely to build a fitness routine into our day if we could do it from the comfort of our own home or office, but who can afford the high cost of many of today’s new exercise machines?  Well, there are some solutions out there for finding cheap gym equipment.  This guide will help you identify those places, as well as provide you with tips on examining the machines for and quality issues.

When it comes to searching for cheap gym equipment for sale, there a few options to consider first.  Begin by making a short list of your fitness goals, this should include any areas of your physical health that you would most like to work on (ie. legs, hips, chest arms, etc…) Also, think about whether you would benefit more from a weight machine or cardiovascular equipment (exercise bike, elliptical).  Finally, if this gym equipment is going in your home or office, consider how much space you have for it.

Once you have your list of goals, begin searching online for deals.  I like to begin on Craigslist, as you can view local equipment (it is always ideal to see the gear in person before buying).  The local newspaper is also a great location for fitness gear.  If you are still having trouble finding what you are looking for, search EBay and or Amazon.  These two sites are notorious for having great deals on exercise equipment.

Once you have found the gym equipment you are interested in, you will need to carefully inspect it.  Most people are selling their equipment simply because they do not use it enough and wish to free up the space it is occupying.  However, it’s up to you to make sure there are not any major issues that may result in equipment failure or worse, injury.

If you can see the equipment before you buy it, start by looking over all the major parts.  If there is a motor, ensure that it runs as it should.  Inspect any cables and pulleys you might find, as well as hand or leg grips.

You will quickly find that it is easier then you may have once thought to find cheap gym equipment and with a little research and effort you might just be able to create your own home gym!
