Diabetes and Meal Planning

As a diabetic myself, I know the importance of good, effective meal planning. If you do not know, people who have diabetes have to monitor what they eat by watching which foods they eat and checking blood sugar levels. I learned about how food affects my body and which foods are OK to eat for my specific case of diabetes. Before going into the steps of meal planning it is a good idea to go to your doctor or nutritionist to find out more about how different foods affect the body differently. What it so neat about going to a nutritionist is that they can plan your meals out for you in a easy, understandable fashion. I learned how many carbs I should consume at each meal and how many meals I should have a day.

So lets get into the steps that I go through with my diabetic meal plan. I first make a list of the foods that I like and comply with my “doctor” advised list of foods. Once I have all of the foods written down on a sheet of paper I look to see which combinations I am interested in making throughout the week.It makes it easier to make seperate categories for different meal groups. So lets say chicken and green beans are on the list. For Monday I would write down chicken and green beans for a meal, maybe for lunch, and then move on to a different meal that day or a later day that week. I know that this sounds simple, but It really does help out to have things planned out for the week. You could say that it is diabetes meal planning made easy. I go to the grocery store and buy everything that I will need so there is no confusion or thinking required for dinner the rest of the week. If you think that my way of doing this type of planning is not enough, then you can go online and find a meal planner book or purchase Nutrisystem D. Both of these will help, but they do cost money. Nutrisystem d is an entirely automated process of meal planning, but comes with a price. Anyways, thank you for reading this post.
