Do Crash Diets Work?

You need to lose 10 pounds for your 10th class reunion and you need to do it quick, but do crash diets  really work?  The cabbage soup diet, the master cleanse, the lemon juice diet – so many diets and so little food.  What is the best way to lose weight really fast short of starving yourself?

It is possible to lose weight on these diets, but realize that most of the weight you do lose will be predominantly water weight.  It may work to temporarily fit into those size 6 jeans, but as soon as you resume your regular eating habits, the weight will come back.
Carbohydrates that come from white flour and sugar hold on to water and they make you bloated.  When you stop eating those foods, you will lose the water weight and will probably fit into those skinny jeans.  But how long can a person maintain a diet that consists of cabbage soup or lemon water?  Realistically, not very long.  Cabbage soup is good to eat as long as it’s part of a healthy, balanced diet, and lemons are great to  squeeze into your water or onto your vegetables.

The best way to lose weight and lose it for good is to eat a diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains like brown rice, oats and quinoa, and 3-4 ounce portions of lean protein at every meal.  It’s also best to eat 5 smaller meals everyday instead of 3 large meals.  That way you will keep your metabolism burning at a steady, even pace.  Keep yourself hydrated.  Drink 7 to 8 glasses of water a day to help flush out toxins.
And last, but not least, exercise.  A half hour of cardio everyday and 15 minutes of yoga type stretching will make a big difference if you do it on a consistent basis.
