Ergonomic Chair Types and Their Uses

There are many types of chairs on the market but, not all are posture friendly. Ergonomic chairs are great for fixing and building posture as well as keeping your spine inline. This guide reviews the different types of ergonomic chair on the market and their benefits.

Ergonomic Desk Chair

This type of chair is the most basic form of an ergonomic design. The chair has lifts allowing the user to raise or lower themselves to their proper comfort level. Arm rests should sit at desk height but allow for adjustment depending on the user’s needs. Even though this chair is the basic version, it should have a back and lumbar support to help with posture, maintain spine health, and to make the user more comfortable if they sit in the chair for a large part of the day.

Ergonomic Computer Chair

This is a unique chair and is rarely seen due to its price and the fact that it can really only be used for long term sitting and computer use since it’s not an easy chair to get in and out of. With this chair, the feet are elevated and the seat is reclined with the computer screens suspended on a pole over the users head. Due to the style of this chair, they are also often known as a gaming chair since the computer screens are right at eye level and the user does not have to bend.

Ergonomic Ball Chair

A newly popular addition to the family, an ergonomic ball chair is a popular choice for those really looking to improve their posture. This style of chair is an exercise ball on a frame with wheels however, over time this style of chair has been modified to include a frame with a back and arm rests. Since using an exercise ball is an extreme way to improve your posture, many consumers agree that this form is not ideal for long term use and may not work well for desk use. This type of chair can also be beneficial for exercise and pregnant women to help with their abs and back muscles during pregnancy.

While all of these chair styles have ergonomic features, not all of them may be suitable for you and your needs. It’s best to try out the different types of chairs until you find the one that specifically meets your needs and you budget.
