How Important Is Aerobic Exercise?

You have undoubtedly heard that you should get some form of aerobic exercise if you want to burn fat and keep it off.  Aerobic exercise helps speed up the metabolism which is directly linked to burning fat and losing weight.  The burning questions (no pun intended) are how much aerobic exercise should you do, how hard should you work out and what kind of exercise should you do?

How Much Aerobic Exercise Do You Need?

Losing weight and keeping it off is no small job.  If you goal is to lose weight then plan on setting aside a minimum 50 minutes each week.  I’m saying this is the minimum but many of you reading this will need to do more, up to as much as an hour and fifteen minutes.  If you need to take a break, no problem, just remember that you need at least ten minutes of uninterrupted time of aerobics to get the metabolic effect.

How Hard Should You Work Out?

To achieve the best cardiovascular condition and retain the least amount of fat you want the most aerobic exercise in the shortest period of time.  Some people will warn that if you engage in a high-intensity aerobic workout that your body will burn more carbohydrates than stored body fat.  It really doesn’t matter whether you burn more carbohydrates than fat as long as you get that metabolic rate up which helps to burn those calories all day long.  Work out hard enough to get yourself in the zone.  The zone is described as deep breathing, fatigue but you can still have a conversation and finish the session at that pace.  Make sure you get clearance from a physician if you have health problems.

What Kind Of Exercises Should You Do?

The more highly aerobic the exercises are the better.  Highly aerobic exercise helps your body produce aerobic enzymes and guess what these do?  These enzymes help you burn fat quicker.
