I cannot believe it but my next door neighbor just installed a little backyard putting green that lets him practice whenever he wants. Fortunately for me we are pretty tight and occasional golfing buddies, so his new toy will get a little playing time from me. In fact, this really helps to even a few things outs, since he and his family are over so often in the summer to use our pool. Man, if we just combined our two backyards, we would have the ultimate set up.
Anyways, I never realized how easy it can be to have a putting green in backyard areas around the home. These days it seems like they have a solution for just about everything. For instance, my neighbor chose to go with artificial golf turf so that it is really low maintenance and can be used year round. We have already used it several times this winter after it stops snowing by using some shovels and a broom. His wife made the joke that the putting green snow was cleared off before the driveway ever was, so it’s pretty easy to see where everyone’s priorities are.
All I can say is that I’m feeling pretty lucky right now. It’s not like the green is even in my backyard, but knowing that this coming spring and summer, I’ll be out there with him practicing our short game puts a big smile on my face. There are few things that I enjoy more than golf, but one of those things is seeing the face some of my other golf buddies make when I get a lower score than them. With this new secret weapon next door, it looks like they are going to have a reason to be making that face far more often this spring. Don’t let them in on my golfing secret, alright!
