Questions to Ask Your Lasik Eye Surgeon

If you considering having Lasik eye surgery, you may be having problems picking out the right eye surgeon.  In an attempt to help you, this article will provide several questions that you should ask the eye surgeon before you decide on whether he or she is the right one for you.

First, you will want to ask the surgeon how many Lasik procedures he has performed.  At a minimum, you will want a surgeon who has done at least five hundred operations.  If the surgeon answers any number that is less than 500, you should consult another surgeon.

Next, you will want to find out how much Lasik experience the surgeon has.  In this matter, more is obviously better.  While we can all appreciate the plight of a new surgeon trying to getting patients, we have no desire to be one of his or her guinea pigs.

Third, you will want to know what your surgeon’s success rate is in restoring 20/20 vision in his patients.  One of the dirty little secrets of Lasik is that it doesn’t always result in perfect vision for its patients.  Various medical studies have estimated an eighty to ninety five percent success rate for this surgery.  If your surgeon has a much lower rate of success, you may want to consider another surgeon.

Lastly, does your surgeon discuss the measures he takes to reduce the likelihood of side effects occurring?  While it is impossible to eliminate all potential complications, your safety should be the eye surgeon’s primary concern.

As we have demonstrated, finding the right Lasik eye surgeon is not as difficult as one may imagine.  If, when you ask a prospective eye surgeon these questions, and he or she answers them in a way that makes you feel comfortable, you may have found the right surgeon.  For more questions about Lasik, stop by the Lasik Eye Surgery Dallas Guide.
