Recognizing and Coping with Candida

What is Candida? It is not pleasant, that’s for certain.  Candida refers to the fungus that can develop in a few parts of the body including the mouth, intestines and the vagina.

Recognizing Candida symptoms can be quite simple as long as you know what to look for, and catching them sooner rather than later is ideal.

Thrush, or Candida of the mouth, usually occurs in children or those with low immunity, such as HIV or AIDS patients.  The main symptom associated with thrush is when a person has white patches coating the inside of their mouth.  They may appear on the tongue, gums, lips, roof of the mouth or inside of cheeks.

Once you or your child have been diagnosed with thrush, it is curable with a round of antibiotics.

Candida symptoms that occur in the genitals if you have an infection there consist of itching in that area that may or may not be accompanied by burning, soreness, pain during urination or intercourse and a whitish and thick vaginal discharge.

You can remedy a yeast infection, or Candida of the vagina, with over the counter remedies.  If you’re unsure if you are infected or if over the counter remedies are not working, consult with your physician because it could lead you to a more serious infection such as vaginitis.  Although treatable, it can be very painful.

You can also get Candida on the skin or internally and it can lead to more serious diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis, fibromyalgia and many more, including mental deficiencies and diseases such as alcoholism.  It’s important that you spot Candida symptoms right away so that you can prevent something more serious like this from occurring.

Most frequent symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Abnormal abdominal gas or bloating
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Frequent diarrhea
  • Unusual cravings for sweets or alcohol
  • Itching, acne, eczema or other unusual skin inflammations
  • Sinus inflammation, persistent cough, sore throat, earaches or chronic pain

This list is not inclusive but if you experience more than one of these symptoms, you should seek an opinion from a doctor immediately, just to make sure.  Catching Candida symptoms early could prevent you from having something seriously wrong with you and can still usually be cured.
