Relaxing Hobbies

Life can be stressful – especially at this time of global recession – and it can be very difficult to switch off and relax. For your health though it is very important to have some ‘down’’ time and not be working all of the hours that you can fit in to the day.

I know that governments recommend doing exercise regularly and there’s the age old saying of “health body health mind” and I don’t disagree with this – exercise is important to combat stress. I also believe however that is equally important to have some relaxing times. Relaxing can be difficult but by having a hobby to immerse yourself in it can be far easier than you think.

There are certain hobbies and past times that will help you relax much more that others, hobbies that make you get outside are generally healthier than those that keep you cooped up indoors. Sailing, landscaping painting, fishing, landscape photography and bird watching are five great relaxing hobbies where at the end of the day you will feel as though you have achieved something. Of all of these hobbies there are two that really stand out for me and these are fishing and bird watching. To some they may seem rather dull but for me they’re a place of sanctuary.

There are few activities that more relaxing than reclining in your fishing chair on a warm summer’s day. Although I bet they wouldn’t admit, half the appeal of carp anglers is that they can get away from the stresses of modern life and relax fully. If they catch a few fish then that’s a bonus! Similar to fishing in many ways is bird watching, going on a bird watching holiday is a very relaxing experience and is sure to help you unwind and totally relax. Spotting birds through binoculars and spotting scopes plunges you in to a whole new world.
