Lately an amazing trend in the medical field has caught the attention of many. Doctors and health clinics are providing case studies on the benefits of rocking chairs for patients. Rocking in rocker is proving to be quite beneficial to people’s health in many ways. For example they are even seeing rocking help stem the growth of various diseases. Ever since I was a child, my grandma would mention how she felt so much better when she was rocking in her old wooden rocking chair. These studies are starting to show that grandma was correct and rockers do have a soothing healing touch. Medical scientists are calling this method of healing, “kinetic therapy” which is therapy that uses a consistent, smooth rocking motion. Case studies have shown that people who have suffered from strokes, heart attacks, and even the common flu have seen great results of healing when they have spent many constant hours rocking. A high percentage of post-surgery patients that have used this version of rocking chair therapy have seen their recovery time speed up by 50-75%. From people whoc suffer with arthritis to ADHD\ADD patients the rocking motion has reduced pain and calmed even the worst hyper-tensive patient.
How did this practice get started? Well, it has been an old remedy for a long time but recently (in the last 10 years) surgeons began to understand that patients who rocked consistently were recovering from knee surgery much faster than patients that did not rock. This made sense to the earlier doctors and physicians because of their understanding of how a human body loves the natural rhythm of the rocking motion and how that rhythm creates a flow within the body that ssists in regeneration and recuperation.
How does rocking help arthritis patients? This is a great question and was puzzling to the medical field at first, but as physicians began to look closer they realized this kinetic energy brought relief to inflamed joints which in return assisted in soothing the arthritic pain that happens inside the joints. This has even krept into the field of back pain and has been very successful in helping those who suffer from chronic back pain and those who have had back surgery.
The health benefits of rocking have been great, especially for children with “hyper” issues. A child rocking chair is a special piece of furniture that also can serve as a medical device. This is very interesting to me and hopefully has opened some of your eyes as well.
