What’s inside the Master Cleanse?

The Master Cleanse is certainly a popular detoxification diet regimen. A lot of this might have to do with the fact that you’ll often hear about various celebrities using it, but often those folks aren’t doing the Master Cleanse for a detox. They are using it to lose weight quickly, almost like a crash diet.

If you are thinking about doing the Master Cleanse itself, you might be wondering what’s in it? What are all the special ingredients? Thankfully, none of its ingredients are actually difficult to find. Most of them are easily found in any grocery store. The only exception might be the Grade B maple syrup as you won’t always find it in the aisle with the other pancake syrups. It is more of a specialty item, but you should be able to find it at health food stores.

But I am getting ahead of myself here! First, I should mention the list of ingredients. In addition to the Grade B maple syrup I already mention, the cayenne pepper cleanse recipe also includes lemon or lime juice, distilled or purified water and cayenne pepper. These ingredients are why you will often see the diet referred to with various names. There’s the lemonade diet, the Maple Syrup diet and the cayenne pepper flush. But don’t worry, these all actually refer to the exact same program. Some people just emphasize certain ingredients over the others.

In addition to the lemonade drink that you make, most people also do either a salt water flush or drink an herbal laxative tea each day. You can do one or the other or both. Some people also skip them altogether, but apparently the Cleanse works best if you do at least one of them. Both the salt water flush and the herbal tea (usually senna) have a laxative effect so you can eliminate as much waste as possible.
