As the saying goes, “there is more than one way to skin a cat”. The same is true for treating the skin condition known as rosacea. While you’d be wise to never discount or do away with the prescription and OTC medication prescribed by your dermatologist – it is crucial to understand how in a round about way one is able to treat their skin problems by avoiding an increase in symptoms. In other words, if you can avoid the triggers that create problems, you are treating those problems by not creating them.

When it comes to rosacea, what are 3 big problems nearly everyone faces? They relate to the weather, water, and food. Let’s look at each of these in closer detail

Weather Related Rosacea Triggers
Avoiding the weather entirely is pretty much impossible, unless you want to live in a cave – but even then you’d get a draft right? Seriously though, the best we can do here is to simply use common sense, plan ahead, and do our best to avoid the sun and any extreme wind. The wind and sun are the two biggest problems when it comes to environmental triggers. It’s a good idea to wear long sleeves and full length pants, keep sunscreen handy, and always keep a hat and an umbrella handy, such as in the back seat of the car.

Water Relate Rosacea Triggers
Maybe this should be called hot water related rosacea triggers, because room temperature water is no problem. But heat it up…and the skin reacts. It’s necessary to minimize or avoid the ingestion of coffee, hot teas, and any hot drinks. It’s also necessary to do the same for hot showers and of course anything like a heated pool or hot tub.

Food Related Rosacea Triggers
The food category of rosacea triggers is fascinating because it’s super diverse. People have reactions to things as varied as fruit to yogurt to nuts. You’ll have to learn for yourself what effects your body and what to avoid.

Avoiding triggers is one type of rosacea treatment. For a thorough look at treatments, head over to the Rosacea Treatment Guide. Here you will find information and resources on prescription medications, herbs, triggers, and OTC rosacea treatment. Everything on this is free and is aimed at helping people take control of their rosacea symptoms to lead a better life not bound by the tethers of this frustrating yet manageable skin condition.

Choose the Best Fake Tan For Your Skin

by admin on February 28, 2010

When it comes to using a fake tan, you will find that there is a massive range of products available on the market. You can get lotions, wipe and spray (not to be confused with spray tanning), that all help you to develop a tan quickly. But how do you choose the best fake tan for your skin.

The first thing that you need to realize is that everyone has different skin. The skins suppleness, absorbency and level of natural hydration will all have an effect on the performance of the fake tanning product. In fact, this is true for all body creams. With this in mind, when you start using a new type of product, you really should try a few out to see which you prefer. Sure, ask around your friends and get recommendations, but until you try them out for yourself, you aren’t going to understand which ones work best with your body.

When you get a new fake tan, you want to do what is called a patch test first. This means that you should try a little bit of the product on a discreet, unseen area of your body to see how it works. You will not only be judging how much of the product to use, and the color that you get, but you can also check that you don’t have a reaction to the product. If you are brave you can try a couple of products at once. You could for example put one product on one leg and a different one on another. After a day or two you can look at both legs next to each other a see which ones results you prefer. Remember to note which product you put on which leg.

When you have done a few small tests you will be a step closer to knowing which fake tan is best for you. You may be surprised with the results, but you will certainly be pleased that you tried them out first before you did your first full body treatment.
